Perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside, these oven-baked sweet potato fries are a wholesome, crowd-pleasing side with simple ingredients and bold flavor.

  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled or scrubbed

  • 1½ tbsp cornstarch

  • 2 tbsp avocado or canola oil

  • 1 tsp kosher salt

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

  • ¼ tsp black pepper (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425°F. Place baking sheets inside to heat.

  • Cut sweet potatoes into ¼-inch matchsticks. Soak in cold water for 30 minutes (optional). Drain and dry completely.

  • Toss fries with cornstarch, then oil, then seasonings.

  • Spread on hot baking sheets in a single layer.

  • Bake 15 minutes, flip, then bake 12–15 more minutes until golden and crispy.

  • Rest 5 minutes, sprinkle with salt, and serve hot.

Notes

Don’t overcrowd the pan. Try variations like cinnamon sugar or Cajun spice. Serve with dipping sauces of your choice.
