A cozy, layered casserole of ground beef, potatoes, onions, and creamy mushroom sauce topped with melted cheese. Easy, budget-friendly, and ultra-comforting.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 45 medium potatoes, thinly sliced

  • 1 medium onion, sliced

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

  • ½ cup milk

  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp paprika

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional: ½ cup sour cream, extra herbs, or vegetables

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.

  • Brown ground beef in a skillet with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Drain.

  • In a bowl, mix soup, milk, and optional sour cream.

  • Layer half the potatoes, half the onions, all the beef, half the soup mix.

  • Add remaining potatoes, onions, soup mix, and top with cheese.

  • Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes. Remove foil and bake 15–20 more minutes until golden and bubbly.

  • Let rest 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use frozen hash browns as a shortcut.

  • Add extra veggies or swap meat for variety.

  • Freeze before or after baking for easy meal prep.
