Ingredients
For the Crust:
- 1 cup (230 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
For the Pecan Filling:
- 1 cup (200 g) brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups (240 g) chopped pecans, toasted
- Optional: 1/4 tsp salt for extra balance
Instructions
1. Preheat Oven & Prepare Pan:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang for easy removal.
2. Make the Crust:
In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until smooth. Add flour and salt, mixing until crumbly. Press evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 15–18 minutes, until lightly golden. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
3. Prepare the Filling:
In a medium bowl, whisk together brown sugar, melted butter, eggs, heavy cream, and vanilla until smooth. Stir in toasted pecans.
4. Assemble & Bake:
Pour the pecan filling evenly over the baked crust. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the filling is set but still slightly soft in the center.
5. Cool & Slice:
Allow bars to cool completely in the pan. Use the parchment overhang to lift bars out and slice into squares or rectangles.
Tips for Perfect Pecan Pie Bars
- Toast pecans: Brings out their flavor and adds crunch.
- Don’t overbake: Filling should remain gooey for that classic pecan pie texture.
- Use parchment paper: Makes removing bars easy and clean.
- Optional chocolate layer: Spread a thin layer of melted chocolate over the crust before adding filling for a chocolate-pecan twist.
Variations
- Bourbon Pecan Bars: Add 1–2 tbsp bourbon to the filling for a rich, warm flavor.
- Salted Caramel Pecan Bars: Drizzle caramel sauce over cooled bars and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
